LAHORE: The Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline Project should be completed on priority as it is the lifeline for Pakistan economy and energy sector in view of fast increasing energy consumption in the country, a consortium of industrialists and traders urged the Pakistan government on Wednesday.
Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF) Acting Chairman Khamis Saeed Butt stated that the government must not bow to any pressure on the project as it was vital to overcome the energy shortage that has halted economic activities in the country.
Presenting a one month performance report to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in a meeting on Wednesday, Butt said the industrial process was already shrinking fast because of low production, and that it had had come to a grinding halt due to gas shortage.
While the low job creation phenomenon had taken hostage the entire society, it was resultantly creating a number of social problems, thus exacerbating the need for the Pak-Iran Gas Pipeline Project, he argued.
Butt further urged the government to be more focused on energy projects following the rising demand of energy in the country.
