ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) indicted Defence Secretary Asif Yasin Malik for contempt of court because he failed to hold local bodies election in cantonment areas, Express News reported on Tuesday.

The court also said that local bodies elections in cantonment areas must be held on November 27 or December 7 and gave the government seven days to decide which of these dates they will hold the elections on.

If they are unable to make a decision, the court will restore the old system of elections.

According to the schedule of LG polls in the province, elections will be held in Balochistan on December 7. The tentative dates for elections in Sindh were set for November 27, while those for Punjab were also set for December 7.
