LAHORE:

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Wednesday ordered an inquiry against officials accused of embezzling millions in the purchase of dengue medicines.

The chief justice sought the report by December 3. The petition was moved by Muhammad and Ahmad, a public interest litigation company.

Petitioner's counsel Azhar Siddique said 71 dengue fever cases had been reported on September 4 and the number was increasing every day. He said the provincial government had failed to control dengue fever.

He said substandard insecticides were sprayed to control dengue mosquito breeding.

He said millions of rupees had been embezzled in the purchase of dengue medicines between January 2012 to September 2013. He asked the court to direct to the government to hold an inquiry.

The petitioners should be punished for wasting courts time.
