KARACHI: Chairman Railways Worker’s Union Open Line, Manzoor Ahmed on Tuesday said that new locomotives were vital to uplift the services of Pakistan Railways (PR) and this process should be transparent.

He said import of locomotives from China in past resulted in the loss of billions. He welcomed the government decisions regarding not to privatise PR, reduction in rail fares and the decision not to hand over the goods trains to the National Logistic Cell (NLC).

The chairman said that new locomotives should be imported from some reputable company of US or India where high quality of locomotives are manufactured. He said that a few honest and professional officers along with an honest and dedicated leadership can change the destiny of PR. Ahmed said there is huge potential in PR and firm decisions along with sustained policies can help PR to stand on its own feet.
