KARAK/ KARACHI: In two incidents just a day apart, one journalist was shot dead and another roughed up in Karak and Abbottabad, respectively. On Saturday, journalists across Pakistan condemned the attack on Abbottabad Union of Journalists General Secretary Sardar Shafiq. Shafiq left his office late Thursday night when he was intercepted by three men. The assailants proceeded to attack the local journalist with iron rods, leaving him critically injured. The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists issued a statement in Karachi, demanding the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government to provide justice at the earliest and security to journalists in the volatile region. On Friday night, Ayub Khattak was on his way home in Karak when unidentified assailants shot him; Khattak died on the spot. At a condolence meeting held later by fellow media personnel, journalists announced a seven-day mourning which, if not followed by an arrest, will lead to protests across districts.

Reign of terror. Journalists who find themselves vulnerable will tone down their voices. This is what is demanded by terrorists. Great governance!!!
