LAKKI MARWAT:

In order to counter spread of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) virus, the livestock department of Lakki Marwat plans to use preventive sprays on sacrificial animals at check posts set-up at entry points in the district.

District Livestock Department Director Dr Naseemullah Wazir on Friday said cattle is transported to the district from Punjab and DI Khan in this season. Hence, they are spraying the preventive substance on an emergency basis.

“Officials have been deployed at entrance points at Darra Pezu to control the arrival of infected animals into the district,” Wazir told The Express Tribune, adding officials will work round the clock.

Wazir explained the CCHF virus is a tick-borne viral disease in domestic and wild animals that later affects humans. “Eidul Azha is around the corner and the disease even spreads when people get injured while extracting hides of animals,” he added.
