KARACHI: Bangladesh golfer Mohammad Sagar came from behind to claim the 52nd Amateur Golf Championship of Pakistan that concluded yesterday at the Lahore Gymkhana.
Sagar, who never finished as a leader in any of the three rounds, raised his level in the fourth and decisive round to finish on top.
Starting the final day on 220 — a stroke behind third-round leader Taimoor Khan — the Bangladesh golfer excelled and fired 70 to achieve an aggregate of 290 to capture the title.
He was ecstatic on the triumph and gave thumbs up to the hospitality during the Lahore stay.
“The course was fantastic and I really enjoyed playing here,” said Sagar. “I enjoyed the trip and the tough competition I was given in the championship. This tour will remain in my memories for a long time.”
Taimoor failed to maintain his lead but displayed an impressive show, securing a card of 76 that dropped him to third spot with a gross of 296.
Karachi-based golfer Ali Hai claimed the runners-up spot with a total of 293 while Ghazanfar Ali accumulated 298 with Sajid Khan finishing with a card of 299.
Naeem Khan, who remained impressive throughout the first three rounds, suffered a dip in form, scoring 80 on the day for a total of 301.
Ghazala retains ladies’ title
Meanwhile, Ghazala Yasmin of Garrison Golf Club retained the ladies’ event title with a gross of 240 from three rounds, while Ami Qin and Tehmina Ahmed secured second and third positions respectively.
Earlier, the Sindh team won the inter associations team title while Bangladesh claimed the international team event.
