Healthy competition: Young swimmers participate in inter-school contest

Lahore Grammar School Defence took the first position among girls with 353 points.

Students from various schools across the city participated at a two-day swimming event held at the Wapda Sports Complex swimming.


On Saturday, girls from 11 schools participated in the Fatima Group Inter-School Swimming Competition. Boys from 9 schools participated in the competition on Sunday.

Lahore Grammar School Defence took the first position among girls with 353 points.

Boys from Wapda School scored 324 points. They were followed by LGS Johar Town with 160 points and LGS Defence with 124 points.

The young swimmers competed in under-18, under-16, under-14, under-12, under-10 and under-8 age categories. The youngest swimmers competed in a kickboard event.

Competitions included freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke and the individual medley.

Among girls, the best swimmer awards went to Haadia Qayyum Khan and Mishael Hyat Ayub (under-12 age group), Gulminay Lone (under 14) and Sarah Tajammal Hussain (under-16). Boys from Wapda School bagged the best swimmer awards in all age categories, with top prizes going to Ali Raza (under 12), Mohammad Rizwan (under 14) and Hamza Malik (under 16).

“Events like these should be held more often. They encourage children and give them a chance to show their skills,” Haseeb Majeed, a sports coordinator with Beaconhouse School System said.

“The event gave me a chance to compete against other swimmers my own age. I wish there were more events like this in Lahore,” said Mishael Hyat Ayub.
