KARACHI:

Muslim scholars from different schools of thought and civil society members have joined hands with the Christian community in their time of sorrow. They have also decided to carry on a war against elements involved in the mass murder of people in Pakistan.

The bishop of Karachi and Balochistan, Sadiq Daniel, urged religious scholars and civil society members to promote interfaith harmony at a joint press conference on Wednesday. Condemning the brutal incident at All Saint Church in Peshawar, in which, he claimed, 150 people were killed, Daniel said barbarians are the enemy of humanity and Pakistan.

Ministry of religious affairs spokesperson Pirzada Azhar Hamdani, Allama Sadiq Raza Taqvi of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Alama Abdul Khaliq of Interfaith Harmony Commission, Allama Qari Ehsaan Siddiqui and Dr Tanweer Ahmed Sheikh of Health And Nutrition Development Society and Mehnaz Rehman of Aurat foundation also attended the programme at Holy Trinity Church.

The bishop was of the view that the people involved in the Peshawar church bombings were terrorists who targeted the common people of Pakistan belonging to any sect or religion. “The presence of Muslims scholars at the church today proves that those involved in the barbaric act, in which 150 people embraced martyrdom, were not Muslims or belonged to any other faith.”
