Shootout: Man shot dead at sessions court

Police said three accomplices of the assailants, Qaiser, Adnan and Kashif, were later arrested from outside the court.

GUJRANWALA: A man was shot dead and his brother injured in an attack at a sessions court in Gujranwala. Police said Jamshed Iqbal and his brother Tariq Mehmood were at the court of Additional Session Judge Muhammad Aslam Gondal for a hearing of the Ferozawala police station murder case, when Kaalu, Azhar and Zafari shot at them. Iqbal died on the spot. Tariq was critically injured in the shooting, police said. Police said three accomplices of the assailants, Qaiser, Adnan and Kashif, were later arrested from outside the court. Civil Lines SP Khurran Shoaib Janbaz said a case had been registered against eight suspects on the complaint of Khalid, a cousin of Iqbal and Tariq. He said the assailants had entered the court premises dressed in lawyers’ uniform. Additional Inspector General (Investigation) Muhammad Amlaish, CPO Raja Raffat Mukhtar and SP Civil Lines Khurram Shoaib Janbaz tightened the security arrangements at the court after the incident.
