Brazen assault: Mosque attack in Peshawar kills three

At least three people were killed and 19 others injured when armed men attacked a mosque in Peshawar.


The mosque popularly known as Pir Masjid is situated in the Achini Mera area, near the border of Shalober.

It came under attack after the night prayers when a group of people from different villages and Peshawar was busy in ziker as per their weekly ritual.

“Armed men came to the area and opened fire at the gathering when some of them tried to escape and take cover in the rooms. The attackers threw three hand grenades in the rooms too,” said an eyewitness Auyab Khan while talking to The Express Tribune. He said that he saw more than a dozen injured when they rushed to the mosque after the attack and shifted them in private vehicles to Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) and Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC).

One dead body and three injured were taken to HMC while another 16 injured and two dead bodies were shifted to KTH.

“We have information that a mosque has been attacked by militants but have no confirmed report about the number of dead and injured,” said an official of local Sarband police station.
