RAWALPINDI: A man shot dead his wife and son and injured a neighbour in Fazal Town in the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station on Sunday.

The police said that Rahmat Ali had a heated exchange with his wife and 25-year-old son Haider Ali, during which he opened fire on them.

SHO Azhar Ali told The Express Tribune that Ali had divorced his wife, Robeena Kausar, a month ago over domestic issues.

“Kausar then moved the courts over her dowry and provisional share of the house in which she was living,” he said.

The SHO said Kausar got a stay order from the courts, under which she was allowed to keep living in the house. He added that she and her three children used to live in the upper storey of the house, while Ali was living on the ground floor.

On Sunday, Ali had asked his wife and son to withdraw their case from the court, after which a scuffled ensued with his son. “Infuriated by his son’s refusal to vacate the house, Ali took out a pistol and shot him dead,” said the SHO.

After the shooting, he said Kausar ran away and took shelter in her neighbour’s house. However, Ali broke down the door and opened fire on Kausar, injuring her and a neighbour before fleeing.

They were rushed to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where Kausar died as a result of her injuries. A case has been registered against the accused, but no arrest has been made. The victims’ bodies were handed over to their families after post-mortems were conducted.
