KARACHI: The reason behind the high street crime rate in Clifton Town is the area’s importance as a financial and business hub of the city, said Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Chief Ahmad Chinoy.

“In the south zone you find most of the public and commercial offices,” he elaborated, adding that it is easy for thieves to operate in this part of the city because of all the rush.

“They can easily steal a car or a bike from the thousands of vehicles that are parked here,” he said. He also blamed the Anti -Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) for the high rate of car theft in the area. “They are not doing their jobs properly.” According to the CPLC chief, there is a dire need to bring in technology to solve these crimes. “At present, the ACLC does not have that technology,” he said. He recommends ‘reforms’ in the organisation.
