KARACHI:

Four media groups are reportedly vying to get the broadcasting rights for the two home series which Pakistan will be playing in the UAE against South Africa and Sri Lanka later this year.

It has been learnt that Nimbus, Ten Sports, Geo Super and PTV Sports are in competition.

“Four media groups have bid for the broadcasting rights of the series against South Africa and Sri Lanka,” a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official told The Express Tribune. “Nimbus and Ten Sports are the main competitors while Geo Super and PTV Sports are also in contention.”

The official further revealed that the PCB is also mulling over an option of splitting the bidding, which will pave way for two different broadcasters in both cricket series.

The PCB had earlier managed to sell the title and ground rights for its upcoming home series against South Africa and Sri Lanka for nearly $1.3 million.

The board has recently appointed audit firm Ernst and Young to monitor the entire process of awarding the broadcasting rights, while it has also formed a bid committee comprising of former International Cricket Council Chairman Ehsan Mani and Justice Shabbar Rizvi.

When PCB spokesman Nadeem Sarwar was asked about the bidding process, he said that the board will not comment on the issue right now but will share details in the near future. “We can’t comment right now until the successful bids are confirmed, but once it’s done we will share the details with the media,” said Nadeem.

It should also be mentioned here that the PCB’s long-term broadcasting deal of five years with Dubai-based Ten Sports ended this year.
