IPOH, MALAYSIA: Pakistan followed up their earlier victory in the Asia Cup against Japan by defeating Malaysia 4-1 at the Azlan Shah Stadium  on Sunday, Express News reported.

Muhammad Zubair, Dilbar Hussain, Muhammad Waqas and Shafqat Hayat of the Pakistan Hockey team claimed a goal each against Malaysia making it the second match Pakistan has won in the Asia Cup.

The first half of the match proved lukewarm with both the teams scoring one goal each, but Pakistan sped ahead in the second half, scoring three more goals, checking Malaysia's score at 1.

Earlier, it secured a resounding victory by thrashing Japan 7-0 in Malaysia on Saturday.

Pakistan had missed an opportunity last month to book their place in the World Cup line-up, finishing the World Hockey League in seventh place among eight teams in the knock-out round of the competition.

The team is now hoping to clinch the Asia Cup series so that it qualifies for International Hockey Federation (FIH) World Cup in Hague next year.
