KARACHI:

Hundreds of Shahid Afridi fans headed to the Atrium Cinemas on Wednesday with hopes of getting a ticket to become the first-day-first-show audience of Pakistan’s first sports flick, which is named after the star cricketer.

Even if cricket-crazed fans failed to get the tickets, their excitement lived on as they became part of the public red carpet for the much-awaited ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi’ on Wednesday. The movie was premiered to hundreds of screaming fans amid exploding flashbulbs and speakers blaring out ‘Zamana kahe... boom boom’ at full blast.

The cast and crew of the movie, much to the surprise of audience, walked out of the backdrop and onto the ramp to appear directly in front of the excited crowd and the media. “Main Hoon Shahid Afridi is the latest big-budget movie of Pakistan that is expected to thoroughly entertain the audience through its gripping story-line,” said Nadeem Mandviwalla, the managing director of Mandviwalla Entertainment.

“It is not a stereotypical love story,” he said. “It is a story about the dream of a young boy that many Pakistani youngsters can relate to and I believe it is one aspect that will pull the crowd towards cinema to watch the movie and support Pakistani cinema in the process.”

Mandviwalla was not alone in deducing that as actress and singer, Ayesha Omar, who made an appearance at the red carpet, shared similar views. “For a nation which is crazy about cricket, there is no way one could expect them to ignore this movie.”

Television actor Raju Jamil, finds this movie a ‘great gesture’ for the Pakistani film industry to rise up at once after being wrapped in a dreamless slumber since long. The movie has a promising line-up of star-studded cast, including Nadeem Baig, Javed Sheikh, Humayun Saeed, Mahnoor Baloch, Noman Habib, Shahzad Sheikh, Ismail Tara, Shafqat Cheema along with the guest appearance by the man himself - Shahid Afridi.

The movie by Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib of Six Sigma Films is directed by Syed Ali Raza and penned by Vasay Chaudhry with ARY Films and Mandviwalla Entertainment as its official distributors.
