MULTAN/ PESHAWAR:

A program to introduce Health Insurance Cards for the poor in Punjab is under discussion, Punjab Health Sector Reforms Programme (PHSRP) Programme Manager Zahida Ayaz said on Monday.

She said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, will launch the health-insurance cards throughout the province within five years.

“The World Bank is providing us with technical assistance. The Punjab government will earmark funds for the project,” said Ayaz.

She said that specifics of the programme were being deliberated and that it would take some time before any plans were finalized.

“It took Thailand 25 to 30 years to implement the health insurance policy. We are positive we can do this earlier than that,” she said.
