BAHAWALPUR: As many as 234,000 children will be give polio vaccine during a three-day campaign that begins on July 3, District Coordination Officer Sajid Zafar said on Monday. He was presiding over a meeting to review arrangements for the campaign.
The DCO said that the campaign was planned to cover the 43 union councils of the district. He said the children missed during the drive, would be vaccinated on July 4.
Zafar directed the officials concerned to ensure that no stone was left unturned in making the campaign a success. He urged the officers to take the campaign as their national duty.
He said the assistant commissioners would be focal persons in their tehsils.
The DCO also directed Health Department officials to accompany health workers during immunisation at camps and kachi abadis (squatter settlement).
Executive District Officer (Health) Dr Ihsanullah Warraich said that the campaign would cover the 31 union councils in Ahmadpur East.
He said 526 teams had been formed to immunise children. Of the teams, 152 were mobile and 49 fixed. As many as 22 teams will be deployed at bus stands, airports, toll plazas and passenger van stands. Three teams will vaccinate the children accompanying their parents to markets.
The EDO said that the government was adamant on making the district a polio-free zone. He said vaccine was the only sure way to prevent polio.
440,000 to be immunised in Khanewal
As many as 440,000 children in Khanewal district will be given polio drops during the three-day campaign, District Health Officer Dr Yousaf Sumra said on Monday. He was briefing District Coordination Officer Mehmood Hassan. The DCO was informed that 1,100 teams would perform the duties led by 100 supervisors.
The DCO directed the officials to ensure foolproof security for the vaccinators. He said a list of police officials’ contact numbers would soon be provided to the Health Department.
