LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Friday summoned the Sheikhupura DCO on June 24 for allegedly threatening a citizen with demolition of her property, despite a stay order, allegedly at the behest of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Javed Latif,.

Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan issued the order on a contempt of court petition moved by Kokab Khawaja, widow of the owner of the plaza, against Javed Latif, DCO Ali Jan and Assistant Commissioner Saira Umar.

Petitioner’s counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique said that Latif wanted to grab Khawaja’s property. He had had a portion of the plaza demolished on the pretext of widening the road, despite a stay order from a civil court, Siddique said.

Khawaja had moved a petition in the Lahore High Court on April 5, 2010. The court had issued an order restraining the Highways Department from widening the road in front of the petitioner’s plaza, till the civil court decided the matter.

The department had moved an intra-court appeal which was disposed of on July 15, 2011, with directions to the parties to approach a civil court to settle the issue of the property’s ownership. The matter is still pending in the civil court.

Siddique said that Latif, DCO Ali Jan and AC Saira Umar, had now asked Khawaja to demolish the plaza. The counsel said several applications had been submitted to the chief minister’s secretariat but there had been no action.

Siddique said that if the court did not get its order implemented, the plaza would be bulldozed and the petitioner deprived of her property.

Justice Khan asked a law officer to convey the court’s concern to the DCO and tell him to follow the court’s order.
