LAHORE: The representatives of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) have suspended membership of a bar member accusing him of viewing porn sites in the bar room.

Advocate Muhammad Afaq was accused of misbehaving with senior bar members, lady lawyers and abusing bar employees.

Ghulam Sarwar Nihang, acting president of the LHCBA, sent a notice to Afaq informing him that “your membership of Lahore High Court Bar Association has been ceased with immediate effect and the matter will be placed before the General House of the bar”.

In the notice, Nihang said there were numerous complaints lodged against the accused by the senior members of the bar.

The notice further stated that Afaq had misbehaved with the senior members of the bar, especially the lady lawyers, several times and once, while sitting in the Kiyani Hall of the bar, he had opened porn websites and invited the members sitting around him to see the movies.

He had also indulged himself in a brawl with some senior members and very recently he had abused employees of the bar, used criminal force against them, torn files of very important nature and broken a computer in the admin office. In this context an application was submitted by the effected staff to Old Anarkali police for the registration of an FIR against him.

Nihang said Afaq had submitted an apology to the president of the bar, confessing his involvement in the aforementioned allegations and had promised that he would not enter the premises of the bar and would refrain from misbehaving with the members and staff in the future. He had also mentioned that if he enters the bar or commits any untoward act, his membership of the bar should be ceased forthwith.

Acting President of the LHCBA, in the letter, said, “You, in violation of your own commitment, kept visiting Lahore High Court Bar Association, Lahore and displayed number of notices containing false and frivolous allegation against office bearers of this bar, judges and registrar of the LHC.

“A committee headed by Usman Sher Gondal, Finance Secretary Lahore High Court Bar Association, Lahore was constituted by the president. The committee served you notice to clarify your position but you failed to comply with the order of the committee,” the letter added.

“Through this notice you are hereby intimated that on account of above complaints the committee found you guilty of unprofessional conduct, hence your membership of the bar has been ceased with immediate effect and the matter will be placed before the General House of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, Lahore,” the notice issued by the acting president concluded.

I was looking the live coverage of KPK CM speech, when he was elected in the provincial assembly. The members specially ladies were more interested in playing with their smart phones rather than listening to the speech as shown by the camerman time to time.

Porn is arguably the only outlet this country has for sexual frustration. Someone who does this at work as a lawyer has to be a legend, though.

Reading the whole list of charges against the man, one wonders what sort of people have got into the legal profession, and I bet it is not only the legal profession that they have penetrated; just that this one got caught.

When society bans things, it becomes more attractive. May be a psychological need to prove no one can tell you what to do.

Why ban porn anyway? It is like trying to ban prostitution, alcohol, and drugs. Has the ban on these on moral, religious, and legal grounds worked anywhere in the world?

Ignore and all will die its natural deaths.

On another thought, make it legal and Tax it. Pakistan has budget deficit why increase taxes on commodities where poor people are affected. Make porn, prostitution and drugs legal and put hefty taxes on them.

I would propose the same all over the world. Those who use it will find a way to get it and all you are doing is wasting you tax dollars trying to stop. It has not worked historically or now.

Why do the same things the same way over and over and expect a different result?

Who watches porn, which is banned in the country, in bar/court and invites others to watch it too? Who’d believe that? Probably, no one’s that mad. Apparently, the issue was misbehaving or something else.

A senior member of the Ontario College of Teachers was found drunk while teaching a class at an Ontario high school. The respective school board took immediate action and committed him to a rehabilitation facility, paying for the additional private professional counseling that followed. The disciplinary committee took the view that the teacher was an alcoholic which is medically and thus legally determined as a disease. Six months later he was reinstated after having fully rehabilitated, his student rating is now at level 5, the best a teacher can get.

The leaders of LHCBA should act with responsibility and it seems to me that the lawyer in question should undergo psychological evaluation by a certified psychologist/psychiatrist and if necessary the medical bills ought to be paid by the Association’s funds.

Who knows you might have a potential CJ in the making who is momentarily going through an emotional trough, needing anger management and other support to improve his emotional intelligence quotient.
