PESHAWAR:

Police on Friday recovered 15 tonnes of explosives following a raid at a warehouse in Peshawar’s Ring Road area, and arrested two suspects as well.

According to Chamkani police officials, the raid was carried out following a tipoff from the two suspects. The suspects were arrested while they were transporting 50 bags filled with explosives in two pickup trucks. Upon interrogation, the suspects revealed the presence of a massive amount of explosives at the warehouse.

The officials said that around 530 bags of explosives were recovered from the warehouse.

“There were 580 bags in total, each including at least 25kg of explosives,” said SHO Hameed Khan while talking to The Express Tribune. “It amounts to around 15 tonnes of explosives in total,” he added. Khan confirmed the two suspects had been arrested and were currently being interrogated. He said two guards at the warehouse managed to escape the premises.
