Islamabad lodged a protest with Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday over the incident of a High Commission official being “beaten up” in New Delhi, the Hindustan Times reported.
The diplomat and his driver were manhandled by around 10 people, according to the Pakistan High Commission. The mission also says it has lodged a strong protest with the MEA, saying the Government of India should ensure safety of its diplomats as per the Vienna Convention.
Sources in the High Commission said, Zargham Raza, First Secretary Trade in the Pakistan High Commission, was being chased by a motorcycle. There was an altercation after which the biker along with a group of 10 to 15 people manhandled Raza and his driver.
“Our first secretary and his driver both of whom sustained serious injuries have been provided medical treatment and an FIR has also been lodged,” Foreign Office spokesman Aizaz Ahmed said.
Sources in Delhi police confirmed that the diplomat was pushed around by several men.

@A Chowdhury: @David_Smith: @Bharat: @Cosmo: If this is so irresponsible journalism, then wonder what you guys are doing here. Trust me, you will be dearly missed.
ohh chill guys....no big deal he is a diplomat of pak-a failed state.......mot any nation like japan, china or the west.....relax!!!
Lucky the diplomat was in India and got away lightly. Had it been in US or anyother country, he would have been behind bars (Diplomatic immunity or no diplomatic immunity)
@Syed A. Mateen: If after Kargil and Mumbai attack we can give you MFN then what is the problem. Please grow up and don,t behave like kid
@Ali: First your diplomat should lean driving. It is a clear case of hit and run. Watch Ti mes Now where lady is claiming that your diplomat was drunk. Your biased media his making actual culprit innocent.
hey pakistanis why u all are crying in this minor incident, btw fault is not one sided. those who attacked the diplomat didnt knew whether he is a pakistani diplomat or normal citizen btw if diplomats car hit a motercycle then this is bound to happen. It is jusk like any other road accident where brawl take place between two sides,it happen everywhere in the world and diplomats are no exception provided their idendification is not known Useless pakistanis one minor road brawl and the entire community started bouncing.
We Pakistanis can surely and assuredly say it the real face of India and hidden intentions about/for Pakistan.....
Pakistani PPP's leadership's Most Favorite Nation and for Nawaz Sharif having most welcoming and appreciable intentions?????
The lady in the bike is saying Pak diplomat was drunk and mis behaved with her.............
Incorrect reporting by ET. The driver was the first to hit the motorcycle rider and his aunt who was sitting at the back. Then the scuffle took place. I have seen the news just now. Minor injuries and scratches were visible on the woman's arms. Without getting into the debate as to whose fault is it actually, I think the reporting should always be unbiased which is lacking here.
Ok. So the Indian version is that this is a hit and run case. May be it is.. The question is how does that justify beating the passenger who was not driving the car? In a developed country, even beating the driver in such case is not tolerated but that happens in our part of the world.
Not that I am defending the driver if this is a hit and run case. Your responsibility to abide by the law becomes even more compulsory if you are part of a diplomatic convoy but doesn't this incidient say alot....
Lets find out the facts first and most importantly if the car had a Pakistani flag on it to reveal the real intensions. If the driver is found guilty, the law should take its course without fail. If the investigations reveal clear intensions, lets not make it a political issue otherwise we deserve the right to protest.
Irresponsible journalism. The incident has been reported in the India press: the diplomat hit a couple on a motor-bike and was trying to get away. It's possible for occupants in cars with CD plates to get away in Pakistan even when they have caused an accident. It's a little more difficult to do that in India.
Aman ki Asha :(
"MEA has lodged strong protest"...you hit somebody with your car and you expect flowers for that...its so funny.
@ET, That's Pakistani version of events that you're telling. Where's the Indian version involving diplomat's car hitting a couple riding on a motorcycle followed by a scuffle? Biased report.
Hey Hey why you forget to tell he hit a motorcycle first and run so he was caught and beaten is it okay for diplomat to hit innocents and run its so common in pakistan also when you hit someone on road people beating the person responsible for accident. Shame ET supporting criminals
ET Mods: What I am stating is factual. Pls. allow.
The fact that the man was Pakistani is not germane to the story. His car hit a bike and he was trying to get-away. Even if it had been an Indian in his place the same thing would have happened. TO position this as an Indo-Pak issue s irresponsible to say the least.
Despite all this, India wants Pakistan that India should be called as "Most Favorite Nation".
What will India feel if their diplomats are treated in the same way in Islamabad. India learn some manners please.
Wow, innocent Pakistanis. ET very conviniently has missed out the diplomate being involved in the hit and run !
Most Favorite Neighbors?
Peaceful democratic India for us who will teach us on this side of the border about manners and development.
