KARACHI:
Pakistan are set to compete at the International Wushu Competition starting June 7 in China, featuring players from 18 countries.
Pakistan Wushu Federation Secretary Iftikhar Ahmed said that he expected the six-member national squad to grab at least one gold medal.
The squad includes the 2006 Asian Games silver medallist Maratib Khan, along with two other experienced players, Muhammad Sarwar and Asghar Hussain. Three emerging players – Amir Khan, Murad Khan and Sajjad Ali – were also chosen for balancing experience with youth.
“Since 2003, wushu players from Pakistan have won medals in every international competition they have taken part in,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “So I can expect the same this time. We’re hoping that Maratib can win a gold medal.”
The players trained for the tournament in Lahore under the supervision of coach Muhammad Usman.
