KARACHI: The country’s first national level wushu event will start on May 26 in Khanewal after players are short-listed from seven cities, announced the Pakistan Wushu Federation (PWF).

PWF Secretary Iftikhar Ahmed said the event has been planned after a series of tournaments already having taken place in Chaman and Jhang with Karachi due to host its event on May19. The remaining four will take place on May 22 simultaneously.

Winners of these events will take part in the Inter-club Men’s Wushu League later this month, added the official.

A total of 40 clubs took part in Chaman, while 46 participated at the event in Jhang. Two players will represent their respective teams at the national event.

“It’s an inter-club tournament with the format similar to that of a football league,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “The league was a much-needed one. All the top players are affiliated with a club and this way we can short-list the best from among them.”
