SHABQADAR: Two people were shot dead outside the hujra of Awami National Party (ANP) candidate for PK-21, Syed Masoom Shah Bacha, in Shabqadar on Wednesday.

An official of the Battagram police station Ameer Nawaz told The Express Tribune that Naveed Shahzad, a private guard of ANP local leader Nasir Khan, opened fire on Mewa Gul and Jalil Khan who were riding a motorcycle on Battagram Road, killing them on the spot.

Masoom Shah and Nasir were discussing electioneering strategy at the hujra at the time of the incident.

They termed the shooting an accident caused by an inexperienced guard. However, locals say the real reason behind the incident is the prevailing air of fear in the area after recent attacks on Masoom Shah.

Police registered an FIR and arrested Naveed.
