HYDERABAD:
The Hyderabad police arrested four suspected smugglers and seized eight kilogrammes of heroin, worth millions of rupees, from their possession on Sunday.
Hyderabad SSP Saqib Ismail Memon addressed a press conference, called early in the morning after the late night raid, that it was the largest quantity of heroin ever seized from the smugglers in Hyderabad.
The police identified the suspects as Ali Rehman Khan and his nephews Akhtar Gul, Alamzeb and Jahangir, all of whom were arrested from a hotel near the railway station. “They were delivering the consignment from Mardan to Karachi en route to its sale in the international market.” According to the suspects, they are paid Rs20,000 per kilogramme for transporting the package. “We take a train from Mardan to Hyderabad. From here, we travel by bus to Karachi,” said Khan.
According to the SSP, the suspects admitted to having delivered heroine packages at least a dozen times in the past as well. “We hope that they will provide us more information as the investigation proceeds.”
