KARACHI: The election tribunal dismissed the appeal of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Murad Ali Shah against the rejection of his nomination papers to contest for elections from PS-73.

His papers had earlier been rejected because of his dual nationality. Shah had challenged the returning officer’s decision, saying he had taken part in the 2008 general election despite his dual nationality.

But this time, he had been disqualified because of objections regarding his Canadian citizenship raised by Roshan Ali Buriro, a rival candidate from the Sindh United Party. Headed by Justice Faisal Arab, the two-member tribunal noted that Shah held Pakistani and Canadian citizenships simultaneously and couldn’t contest elections. The tribunal heard 32 other appeals challenging the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers. Of them,11 appeals were dismissed.
