DRO seeks report in three days after enforcing ECP guidelines.

LAHORE:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Pakistan tehreek-i-Insaf appear to be leading the code of conduct violations in the city, The Express Tribune has learnt.

Former provincial assembly deputy speaker Rana Mashhood and former minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor and 11 other candidates have been reported for using larger banners, hoardings and flexes than permitted by the ECP.

Eight violations were reported against the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf candidates, two each against Jamaat-i-Islami and PML-Q candidates.

Previouslymonitoring teams have reported violations by Naseer Bhutta, Mian Marghoob Ahmed and Khawaja Imran Nazeer of PML-N, Abdul Aleem Khan of PTI and Aurangzeb Burki of PPP.

On Saturday, District Returning Officer Nazir Ahmed Ganjana directed the DCO, the Operations SSP and Parks and Horticulture Authority director general to submit a report in three days on the violations reported by monitoring teams.

Joint squad

A joint squad comprising officials from the DCO’s office, police and PHA is likely to be constituted in this regard.

The squad is being formed after the DRO issued a show cause notice to the DCO, the PHA director general and the CCPO seeking explanation for not enforcing the ECP code of conduct in different constituencies. The DRO had directed the aforesaid to submit a report within a week after enforcing the code of conduct but no one bothered to submit it.
