Pakistani migrants: Hundreds rescued off Italian coast

All the migrants are being held in reception centers in Sicily and Lampedusa: Official

Italian coastguards said on Friday they had intercepted almost 700 migrants, including Pakistanis trying to get to the country on board 10 flimsy boats.


Rescue workers received a call from a boat carrying 131 people from Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh close to Lampedusa.

Emergency services were sent to rescue them and another 70 people in a nearby craft.

All the migrants are being held in reception centers in Sicily and Lampedusa, an official said.
