BAHAWALPUR: A policeman lost control of his van and ran into and injured two people at the Bahawalpur Zoo on Sunday.

Police said that Faizanul Haq, a policeman, had borrowed a vehicle from the Police Lines without taking permission from the DSP and gone to the zoo.

They said Haq was showing off his driving skills to some of his friends when he lost control of the van and crashed it into a bench where two visitors at the zoo were sitting.

Muhammad Yasir, 18, and a five year old boy were injured and taken to Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

Yasir said he was sitting on a bench when the speeding police van hit it. He said he had injured an arm and a leg. DSP Muhammad Ishaq arrested Haq and registered a case against him for misusing a government vehicle, negligence of duty and illegally entering the zoo premises.

DPO Sohail Habib Tajik ordered Haq’s suspension from service and demanded an investigation report.
