LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) withdrew the names of Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa and Mian Aamir Mehmood from the nominations for caretaker chief minister of Punjab on Saturday, reported Express News.

The withdrawn names were replaced with nominations of media personality Najam Sethi and Justice (retd) Zahid Hussain for the position of caretaker chief minister in Punjab.

Sources in the PPP have confirmed that Mian Mehmood was not interested in being nominated due to his media and journalism-related background.

Randhawa’s name was problematic for Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) as leader Shahbaz Sharif had rejected the nomination.

The two parties, under Article 224-A of the Constitution, only have three days to wrap up their consultations on the appointment of a caretaker chief minister after the dissolution of the provincial assembly.

March 21, 22, 23 were the days for which Shahbaz and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz had to hold dialogues on a name for the interim CM.

The decision if not made by the two parties, will go on to a committee constituted by the speaker of the provincial assembly. If that too fails, the matter is referred to the Election Commission of Pakistan for a final decision.

The drama of electing the caretaker government like in federal government has started in Punjab.... In my suggestion and opinion army is much the best, excellent and august option to be the caretaker government in federal and Punjab governments till the next general election on May 11,2013 because army is the only trustworthy and credible department in Pakistan than any corrupt civil setup and bureaucracy. So army has to be given chance to make the caretaker setup till the next general elections instead of civil setup without wasting any more time....
