A driver was killed and two others injured when a convoy of 10 oil tankers supplying oil to foreign troops stationed in Afghanistan came under attack in Wazir Dandh, Jamrud tehsil, Khyber Agency on Friday.

Line officer Khandad Afridi said unidentified militants opened fire on vehicles at around 10:00am.

Khasadar officials rushed to the site following the incident, but the militants had escaped.

Afridi said Syed Ghaffar, who was driving an oil tanker bearing registration number TLA-700, was killed on the spot while his helper Azhar Mehmood and another driver, Jabbar were injured.

The deceased and the injured were taken to Jamrud Civil Hospital where the wounded were referred to Peshawar. Twenty-four suspects were arrested in a search operation after the incident, added the officer.

Meanwhile, in Peshawar, two drivers and a helper were injured when unidentified gunmen attacked a truck carrying an armoured vehicle for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) near Karkhano Market at noon on Friday.

Drivers Khaista Din and Hasan along with their helper, Rehmatullah, were injured when the truck, bearing registration number LED-449, was attacked near Malik Taj Market en route to Kabul. They were shifted to Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC). The attackers, who were said to be armed with automatic assault rifles, escaped. “They (truck drivers) were transporting a military vehicle from Karachi to Kabul when it came under attack near Kharkhano market,” confirmed a police official. The police launched a search operation soon after, but the attackers had fled.
