SUKKUR: The police have registered a case against the district education officer in Ghotki, Abid Jakhrani, and two of his clerks on Wednesday for allegedly accepting bribe in exchange for a job appointment.

The complainant, Rafiq Ahmed Jhatiyal, who is a resident of Ghotki, told the Anti-Corruption Court, Sukkur, that Jakhrani and his clerks, Manzoor Soomro and Sahib Dino Soomro, had asked him to pay Rs250,000 promising that they would make him a school teacher in return.

He explained that he had not received the appointment order even though he had given them the money. “They are not even ready to give the money back now,” he added.

The assistant director of the anti-corruption department in Ghotki, Saifullah Phulpoto, said that Jakhrani and his clerks were on the run and the police had not been able to arrest them as yet.

Jakhrani, who hails from Jacobabad, had allegedly issued 300 fake orders during his term in office in return for bribes. Additionally, he had been suspended three times before from his post on charges of corruption but was reinstated in a few days. Jakhrani told The Express Tribune that the allegations against him were false and baseless. He also mentioned that he was trying to get a bail on the case.
