The two-day 9th Annual Conference on Management of the Pakistan Economy began here on Wednesday at the Lahore School of Economics’ Burki Campus. The theme for this year’s conference is Human Capital Development for Sustained Economic Growth. Its objective is to promote debate on important policy issues facing the country.


On Wednesday, two sessions (Educational Opportunity for All and Educational Impacts across Income and Gender) were held and the speakers presented research papers followed by discussion. Dr Masooma Habib (an LSE associate professor) presented a paper the Overview of Punjab Education Reforms, Salman Asim of World Bank, presented a paper on public school system in Sindh, Dr Jeffrey S Hammer of Princeton University read a paper on Balancing Market and Government Failures and Dr Zeba Sathar, the Population Council country director, read a paper on Struggling Against the Odds of Poverty, Access and Gender-Secondary Schooling for Girls.
