PESHAWAR: Sui-Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) employees in a protest demonstration on Friday announced to go on strike over violence committed by the Afghan refugees against SNGPL staffers. They also asked the government to provide security to the government departments’ employees. The strike was observed at SNGPL main office in Hayatabad and in SNGPL sub-office at Faqirabad. Earlier on Thursday, the SNGPL employees were beaten up at an Afghan refugee camp at Khattaku Pul when they tried to disconnect the illegal gas connections during their scheduled inspection of the area. The SNGPL employees at the protest demonstration which was organised by the SNGPL Employees Union-Pir Muhammad group condemned the incident asking authorities to take action against the people involved. During the protest demonstration at SNGPL sub-office, a large number of customers got infuriated over their complaints not being answered. Police had to be called to avert any untoward incident. Later, when contacted the SNGPL Employees Union Leader Naimatullah Zakori who was also present at the protest demonstration told The Express Tribune that if the authorities failed to arrest the people within two days they will continue their strike.”
