KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly approved resolution for the establishment of a university in Hyderabad under public-private partnership on Wednesday, Express News reported.

The joint resolution was moved by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Member of Provincial Assembly Syed Waseem Hussain and Pakistan People's Party MPA Farheen Mughul.

Meanwhile the bill moved by the MQM to build a private university  had been turned down by government citing the reason that it had been referred to education, finance and law department for their consent.

Earlier, a news channel had reported that Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq said that he wouldn't allow universities to be set up in Hyderabad.

MQM had protested against those comments and had even asked the minister to submit his resignation. However, Haq claimed that his comments had been taken out of context.

The party had announced to move the university bill on Monday, however the acting speaker adjourned the assembly session after only 90 seconds of proceeding.
