KARACHI: The Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) Managing Director Salman Sarwar Butt resigned from his post for the proposed event, citing personal and professional commitments.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has temporarily appointed its director general Javed Miandad for the role as the board will now look for a new managing director.

“It has been a wonderful experience working on the PSL project,” Butt said in a statement issued by the PCB. “I am indebted to the PCB for their confidence in our abilities to develop and manage a project of this magnitude.”

He said he informed the board in advance that he will not be able to associate with the league after its first edition, which was earlier planned for March-April.

“This has been a difficult decision to make, but my personal and professional commitments would preclude me from carrying on”.

Butt hoped that the new schedule will be announced soon. He said he will be available for any assistance even if he was not attached with the PSL in official capacity.

Meanwhile, PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf praised Butt’s effort for the league.

“Salman has provided invaluable services to PSL,” said the chairman. “His dedication and commitment to the League will always be cherished.”

Miandad, who will now lead the league, expressed optimism for the event.

“I am pleased to lead the team until we appoint a new MD on a permanent basis. The PSL is working with great enthusiasm on all aspects of the league”.

The development came amid reports of an overhaul in the PSL team. Speculation also suggested that the removal of former International Cricket Council’s Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat as consultant of the league was also on the cards.

However, a PCB official negated the report and said Butt has resigned himself and there were no such plans of removing other PSL officials.
