JHUDDO: Districts in lower Sindh are facing a shortage of water as some canals, which were closed in early January so that silt could be removed from them, have yet to be opened. The canals are usually closed for 15 days in winter. Six union councils, including Jhuddo, Roshanabad, Naukot and Dilawar Hussain, are the worst-affected areas and farmers fear they may face financial losses if their crops dry up.
