TOBA TEK SINGH: Three children have died of measles and five others are in a serious condition at the district headquarter hospital (DHQ).

All the affected children belong to a village near Rijana, Chak no265 GB. A man named Abdus Shakoor brought his six-month-old son Mohammaed Ramzan, telling them that his two sons – Mohammed Tayyab, 3; and Qamar Abbas, 5 – and six-month-old nephew Mohammed Ali had died of measles. Four siblings – three boys and a girl aged between one and five – were also admitted to the hospital with symptoms of the viral disease. The children, said the hospital, are of Shakoor’s neighbours.

Two other girls, suffering from measles, were also admitted to the hospital. One of them, six-year-old Ayesha, was discharged. The others are still under treatment. EDO (Health) Dr Ashraf Javed, who visited the hospital has directed the Health department to send teams to the village to administer measles vaccine to the children.
