KARACHI:

The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has initiated a high-potential Pakistan Deep Water Container project to manage overall port traffic and handle cargo expecting to double capacity in the next ten years. This implies building of more berths, facilitating large mainline ships and feeder vessels and helping transform the Karachi Port into a trans-shipment hub of the region.

The Sindh Environmental Agency (SEPA) is involved in evaluating and vetting the KPT’s Deep Water Container Project and has formed a committee of experts comprising professionals, specialists and academicians in this regard.

IoBM is the only institution to be represented by two experts at SEPA, including Dr Shahid Amjad and Moinuddin Ali Khan. While Dr. Shahid Amjad would examine and advise on the biological aspects of the environment, Moinuddin  Ali Khan’s expertise will be utilised in the engineering and technical aspects of the proposed project.
