Two alleged outlaws were injured and arrested by the Ghotki police on Friday in an ‘encounter’ but relatives of the detained men accused the police of manipulating the entire incident.

Police brought the two injured men, Zulfiqar Mirani and Ali Gul Mirani, to the Ghotki taluka hospital, saying that they were involved in heinous crimes. Members of the Mirani clan gathered outside the hospital and when police tried to take the two men away, a scuffle broke out between them in which two women were reportedly injured.

The accused, while talking to reporters from Ghotki at the hospital, alleged that they were on the way to the Ghotki district and sessions court on January 11 when policemen ‘took’ them away to an undisclosed location. They alleged that there was ‘no encounter’.

Ghotki DSP Ghotki Liaqat Abbasi, however, told The Express Tribune that both men were criminals wanted by the police in several cases. He claimed that the people outside the hospital wanted to take the arrested men and that is why police had to take action. According to DSP Abbasi, multiple cases have been registered against the accused at the “B” section police station.
