MIRPURKHAS:
The police have arrested the prime suspect involved in the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl in Mirpurkhas on Thursday.
The girl, NA, was reportedly kidnapped last Friday, but her burnt body was found inside a gunny bag on Wednesday. Medical experts said that the culprits sexually assaulted the girl, throttled her with a wire, and then set the body on fire. Doctors have sent her remains to a laboratory for further investigation.
An FIR was registered at the Satellite Town police station against unknown men. Mirpurkhas SSP Farooque Ahmed Jamali informed Sindh Express that three suspects, Noor Ali alias Mama Panhwar, Wali Ahad Bhatti and Fahd alias Dada Qureshi, had been arrested. He claimed that the prime suspect in the case, Panhwar, had confessed.
Mirpurkhas DIG Ghulam Haider Jamali, who constituted a probes committee, said that two suspects had been detained.
Family mourns loss
According to details, ‘NA’ was a student of Class IV, but also used to help her father run a paan kiosk in the evening. Her mother, Salma, said that she had gone to a shop on Friday afternoon, but did not return. Getting worried, the family informed the police about her disappearance. They thought that she was kidnapped.
Hamid Abro, the victim’s father, worked as a rickshaw driver by day, and ran the paan kiosk in the evening. He told media personnel on Thursday that he used to send his daughter to collect unpaid bills from his customers. He suspected that some of these people might have kidnapped and assaulted his daughter.
The girl’s body was found inside a bag that was lying near Sohail Town and Mir Colony. Residents noticed the bag when they saw stray dogs trying to tear it. The police were called in, and they took the body to the Civil hospital, and then informed the family.

@James: Valid points. Media coverage is certainly imbalanced. However, when the crime is result of some cultural or societal influences, they get good coverage and you will see lots of comments. For instance, in the case of Mukhtara Mai or cases of vani and karo kari. Not only media but also human rights and women rights group go out to protest. But yes, there is huge room for improvement at the society level. Even in India there are numerous cases of rape everyday but only some get coverage, and in case of the Delhi rape case, it wasn't just the Pakistani media, it was an international news given the protests by people. By the way, I kind of sense that you think the Delhi rape coverage picked by Pakistani media was to somehow malign India. That is not the case, everyone in Pakistan felt really as bad about that incident as any Indian did.
As far religious bigotry and own backyards are concerned, I guess India also has to do some real cleaning. Recently, Pakistani cricket team had to cancel its matches, Pakistani hockey players were returned because of protests by some extremist elements in India. So I guess, we should all focus somewhat on our own backyards, not just Pakistan.

Thanks Zaheer for your view....the reason I am saying is that just yesterday a little girl was raped and burned which appeared on ET and I saw a very few comments from the Pakistani side.....it is because the people not showing any interest to these news while you find nearly 100 comments for the Quadri thing.....Also on Jan 4th edition, you will find a 9-year-old girl being brutally gangraped and is fighting for her life in a hospital in Pakistan, no followup report on that i.e. how she is doing, what about the criminals, did they arrest them or not, so on and so forth. You can google the news in ET...........These all news appear just for a day in ET (Dawn and The News don't even bother to mention that) and vanishes the other day, but they do not forget to follow the rape issue step-by-step which happened in Delhi while ignoring the same in their own backyard...........I just said to stand up and fight because I have never seen people coming out in the streets unless there are any religious issues involved in it, which they feel are an insult to their religious belief......
@James: U are right, James. We must stand against these heinous crimes against humanity. No society in the world is crime-free and we have never said that. The voice is always raised and is heard by those at the helm of affairs. And, you must have noticed that culprits have also been arrested by the area police. So what is point in saying that 'we criticise Indian counterparts'. Crime against humanity should be rejected irrespective of where it occurs and by whom. We as human beings must play our part to degrade those committing crime and raising our voice. As far as commenting on this website is concerned, I would like to humbly let you know that fewer comments don't necessarily reflect a society's approach. Furthermore, this newspaper in print has a restricted circulation. Hundreds of cities and towns don't even know of this. Even in my city Sukkur, this paper has not access in the market although it has a considerably good circulation in big cities and metropolis of Pakistan.. We ought to come out of fantasies of being Pakistanis and Indians at least when such ignominious crimes against humanity occur.
Why no comments from Pakistani side who do not miss a single chance to criticize their Indian counterparts..........Now when are you guys going to stand up and raise your voice for these heinous crimes which are also taking place in your country which many of you pretends nothing such is happening.......Please guys wake up and learn to stand also for something else other than religious issues........This is something which you have to accept it and stand it for now........
