WAH CANTT: A refurbished plant for the manufacture of small arms was commissioned on Saturday at the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) with the aim to fulfill needs of the army and paramilitary forces of the country.

The commissioning of this plant, which is of South Korean origin, is aimed to put into effect the manufacturing of 7.62 mm small arms ammunition.

The project is a part of the Balancing Modernisation Replacement and Expansion (BMRE) plan which was undertaken by Defence Production Secretary Lt Gen (retd) Shahid Iqbal.

The refurbished plant was one of the oldest units of POF and its re-commissioning was seen as a key addition to the strategic potential of the POF. The POF is a vital part of the Pakistan military’s narrative and has a sizeable potential to expand its exports.
