LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday summoned the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) on a contempt of court petition filed by two suspended sub-divisional officers (SDOs). Petitioners Mohammad Iqbal Butt and Zulfiqar Ali Joiya contended that CEO Mahboob Alam had suspended them from service on November 3, 2011 on charges of professional misconduct. They said that at the time of their suspension, they were in custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in another case. The petitioners said they had challenged their suspension before the high court and the court had directed the respondent to clarify his position within 15 days. They pointed out that over two months had passed but the respondent failed to clarify his position. The petitioners submitted that contempt proceedings should be initiated against the respondent. Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan adjourned the hearing till December 21.
