RAWALPINDI:

Known teaching hospitals in England will teach and train the staff members of the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC).

This was said in a meeting reviewing ongoing health projects in Punjab held in Lahore late Monday evening. The meeting was chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

At the meeting, RIC Chief Executive Dr Azhar Mehmood Kiani said that one of the teaching hospitals that will help RIC is the London Children University and Teaching Hospital.

The UK hospitals will meet the training expenses of the staff members, he added.

CM Health Adviser Khawaja Salman Rafique, National Assembly member Hanif Abbasi and Punjab health secretary attended the
meeting, said an official handout.

CM Sharif said the RIC will start functioning from December 25 and will be given an autonomous status.

A committee under the chairmanship of Rafique will chalk out legislation for this purpose, he added.

There are 183 posts at the RIC that need to be filled by January 2013, according to RIC administration. Some of the important posts include a pharmacist and dental surgeon.
