PESHAWAR: Addressing an Af-Pak conference for journalists on Monday, US Consul General Robert Reed said that links between Afghanistan and Pakistan were imperative for the ongoing peace efforts in the region. He said that free media was vital in order to promote a strong democracy and resolve social problems. “There is no doubt that this region is dangerous for Pakistani journalists, but they are rendering their duties in a candid manner,” the consul general added. Afghan journalist Babrak Miankhel said that the two countries had the same tradition and culture and no one could separate their ties. He stressed that the role of the media should not be undermined in bringing stability to this region.
