Abu Zaid killed along with 10 other people in North Waziristan.
PESHAWAR: A senior al Qaeda commander was killed in a US drone attack in North Waziristan, tribal sources said on Saturday.
Abu Zaid was killed, along with 10 other people, in the drone strike on a hideout in North Waziristan on Thursday, the sources said.
Zaid had just moved to the hideout a few days ago, they said.
Security officials based in North Waziristan said they were aware of the death of a senior al Qaeda commander but could not confirm his identity or rank.
Zaid replaced Abu Yahya al-Libi as one of al Qaeda’s most powerful figures in June after Libi was killed by a US drone strike.

Now the US can hold talks with Abu Zaid and there is a good chance that he will not object to any conditions. Silence is approval.

to this day we’ve only seen the body of Baithullah Mashud from a drone attack, if drones are so successful then why we didn’t get to see other dead bodies of al-qaeda or whatever the name is ??? we are only told- a “SOURCE” said this and this.

He should have listened to OBL who suggest that drone attacks were too dangerous in Pakistan and to head back to Afghanistan.

@umar:
I fully agree with you that Pakistan writ should run in this province but your military considers these terrorists as its strategic assets and have been postponing operations for the past two years. The same type of strategy was employed with Pak Taliban who have created havoc in Pakistan but still efforts are being made by your military to change their commanders who do not attack them and continue their barbarism elsewhere in the country. The day is not far when Taliban would be jointly carrying out attacks in Pakistan and prove this strategy as self-destructive. However, your civilian govt has already taken many steps to make peace with India which has been duly reciprocated by the latter. As such there is no external threat to Pakistan but internal threat is so grave that many leading defence analysts have predicted dooms day scenario for this country.

@True Picture:
hm. Could it be that militants take away the dead right after? Do you know what comes along with that fact? It means militants are in the immediate vicinity. Lets see you go and let them see you taking pictures. I’d bet anything you’d become the subject for a new ‘found footage’ horror film.

Did you see the footage of the “innocents” the other day when you commented that drones kill “innocents”?

Can they direct a missile or two to the likes of Malik Ishaq, and Hafiz Saeed. Rid the menace completely.

@Something Clever:
Mr not so clever, anyone could leak out the photos just the way Baitullah’s picture were leaked out, there weren’t any photographers invited to the funeral. Most of the victims are innocent families, the success rate is extremely low. They bomb wedding processions or funerals or they target a house with 50% intel. Most of the commentators over here are Indian trolls so I’m not surprised at all but its really pathetic to impersonate as a Pakistani & comment here.

Now I understand why pak is so vociferous against these drone attacks. The violation of sovereignty is only a pretext. Loss of well trained strategic assets must be the real answer. One strike at Muridke will finish of the terrorists in punjab as well.

@vasan:
You are absolutely right. The USA could use carpet bombing with daisy cutters to flatten the whole area but they are exercising reasonable caution. Inevitably there will be some civilian casualties. No one mourns the innocents killed when these terrorists carry out suicide or remote controlled bomb attacks.
