BAHAWALPUR:

Sixty-six contract workers have been fired by the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) administration in Bahawalpur.

The workers, including sanitary workers and store boys, were appointed on October 23. The letter states: “We are taking back the notification of 66 appointments on October 23.”

QMC Principal Dr Muhammad Haroon Pasha said the hirings were made without the board of management’s approval. “The board of management decided to cancel the appointments,” he said.

One of the fired workers, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Express Tribune that they were protesting against the ‘unfair’ dismissal from service.

“If the administration did not get an approval from the board of management, it is not out fault…we were selected on merit,” he said.
