ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will convene a meeting on Tuesday to take up key matters pertaining to the next general elections. Among the topics on the agenda include setting up alternative polling stations to allow those displaced by floods and war to vote. Additionally, a number of applications on election symbols are due to be discussed along with cases of dual nationalities.

The ECP will take up a petition filed by Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan seeking alternate places for polling in view of massive exodus from South Wazirstan in the wake of an army operation.

According to the agenda, the ECP has put Khan’s petition that had asked the ECP to allocate alternate polling stations in upcoming general elections for the National Assembly constituency (NA-42).

The ECP will also take up applications that include a tug of war between the PTI and Jamat-e-Islami (JI). Both parties have filed applications for allotment of election symbol “Scale”.

An application by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, has sought changes in the appearance of his election symbol “book”. It would be pertinent to mention that “Book” was election symbol of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) in the 2002 elections. In 2008, after JI’s boycott from the general elections the MMA had dismantled.

Secretary General of Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz (PML-N), Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, had filed a petition for removal of election symbol “cat” from the list of prescribed symbols. This application will also be discussed during Tuesday's meeting.

The meeting, according to the released agenda, will also take up several cases of dual nationality. These include the fate of 43 members of Punjab Assembly on account of dual citizenship submitted by former Ambassador Asif Ezdi.

In addition, dual nationality case of Donia Aziz from the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), Arif Aziz Sheikh from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will be discussed by the commission.

Rafi | 11 years ago | Reply Pakistan has been destroyed by Single Nationality Holders politicians. Those who are saying that those having Pakistani nationality are sincere towards Pakistan, please explain why have the Single Nationality people have looted and plundered Pakistan Right, Left and Center for 65 Years. This does not hold true in Pakistan at least, I am seeing this loot and plunder of Pakistan for more than 3 decades (over 30 years) by these single nationality holders!!! We should stop Fooling Ourselves and Others on False claims. History of Pakistan is exact opposite of this, Single Nationality Holders have already sold Pakistan many times in the last 65 years and they want to take out every drop of blood what ever is left on claiming they are sincere towards Pakistan. No Sincere Pakistani Will Buy this!!! They have looted and plundered Pakistan at will. Actions speak louder than words!!! Dual Nationality people are mostly honest, sincere people and they Love Pakistan More. They are thousand times better than our corrupt politicians who have single nationality!!!. Dual nationality people can serve Pakistan in an honest and better way than those having Pakistani nationality, who only wants to loot and plunder Pakistan. These people(Dual Nationality) have already been screened out by the western countries of their character/honesty..
