Targeting education: Girls school blown up in Kohat

The bomb was planted by unidentified assailants.

A government primary school for girls was destroyed when a bomb planted near the building went off in the Tirahwaal area of Kamal Khel on the outskirts of Kohat city on Friday.


“The building was completely destroyed when five kilogrammes of explosives planted in a plastic canister detonated,” said SHO Aqiq Khan of Billitang police, talking to The Express Tribune.

The bomb was planted by unidentified assailants. He said that a huge explosion occurred around 10:45pm. The boundary wall of the school and three classrooms were destroyed.

Residents informed the police about the explosion, after which the police reached the site and collected evidence, said the SHO. A nearby electricity transformer was also destroyed due to the explosion, plunging the area into darkness. The watchman was absent when the incident occurred. A case has been registered with the police.
